HYDERABAD: The indefinite curfew, which was clamped in eight police station limits in Old City since Sunday, was lifted on Thursday night in view the substantial improvement in the situation in the riot-hit areas.

However, section 144 Cr Pr will remain in force in all the eight police stations of south zone, Mangalhat, Kulsumpura, Tappachabutra police stations as well as Zirra and Muradnagar areas under the Asifnagar police station limits.

Meanwhile, no untoward incident has been reported during the last 24 hours, except minor incidents in Zirra and Ziaguda areas.

These incidents took place only because of the panic created by the rumour mongers, the city police commissioner R P Singh said in a press release on Thursday.

He also requested the public not to give credence to rumours and cooperate with the police in maintaining peace.

A series of meetings with the peace committees were organised to discuss the steps to be taken to maintain peace and infuse confidence among the people, he added.

Stating that firm action will be taken against those indulging in violence, Singh said that special teams were formed to identify those involved in the violence.

The commissioner said that elaborate arrangements were being made for the peaceful conduct of Friday prayers.

Additional police pickets, patrolling teams and tear gas squads are being deployed in trouble prone areas, to prevent any further violence, he added.
